On the ground

Eddy and the rest of the 115 MPAD arrived in Kuwait sometime Friday. By 11 pm it had cooled off enough (down to a tolerable 95 degrees) that he was able to step out to a phone and make a quick call to let me know he'd arrived. They'll spend a few days there, before heading to their final destinations. So far the report seems to be it's hot ("farking hot" to quote Ed) and dust and biting sand flies fill the air. However, the food (both from DFAC and of the fast variety) is far better than at Fort Dix. Go figure.

That's one of the funny things about this war. Those who stay on base (aka the FOB) have cafes, fairly regular Internet access, and can buy steaks and grills to cook them on and large, flat screen TVs at the PX. In the meantime, infrastructure throughout the country continues to deteriorate. I mean, not that it's not tough on the troops over there, at least compared to what we've got here, but imagine what it's like to be an Iraqi .
