I spoke with Ed this morning. His trip "up north" was cancelled to due to a "amazing sandstorm". So he's just hanging around the base. He also mentioned that the 115 MPAD is being showered with holiday care packages. So many are coming in that they are piling the boxes around the desk of one of the guys currently on leave; they expect to completely bury his desk before he comes back. Given the plethora of generosity that is pouring in, he asked me to pass along the following request. If you are still thinking of sending something to him for the holidays, unless it's a Zingerman's gingerbread coffee cake, please consider instead donating to any of the following organizations: Mercy Corps - who is, among other things, helping Iraqi refugees; Doctors Without Borders, or Heifer International. Actually, he'd even pass (reluctantly) on the coffeecake, there are plenty of "fat pills" coming in. Although, if you've already sent one, he won't be disappointed.
Correction later on 12/19: There is no substitute for Zingerman's gingerbread coffee cake. Mea culpa. Kathy
