One must imagine that Ed and the rest of the 115 are getting pretty excited. Their replacements arrived at COB Speicher last week. Unfortunately for them (the replacement unit), they learned after leaving home that they would be spending 15 months, instead of eight, in Iraq.
Take a moment and feel for them and their families. To use the vernacular of our teenage years, that SUCKS! Imagine, you and your family mentally prepare yourselves for an eight month separation. Eight months, that's not too long. In eight months, Bush will be out of office. But 15 months? That's how long the Democratic presidential campaign has been going on. That's like, forever!!!!
Or at least a really long time. Kathy began to run out of patience around month ten. Ed, even earlier than that.
The official departure day is still a closely guarded secret (or not set, it's hard to tell). However, it must be soon. Ed wrote the other day to say that he has started packing. And believe me, I've traveled with him and moved residences several times, he does not pack in advance!
The word on the street is that they hope to be back home with their families in time for Memorial Day. And while a well-timed sandstorm could put the kibbosh on that plan, let's all cross our fingers and hope for Memorial Days bbqs with their families for all the guys and gals that Ed's been serving with this past year.
